Jazz Lake, a Group of Young Men from CAHS, Set to Perform

0

Jazz Lake is a group of male students from Charlotte Amalie High School who enjoy jazz. Individual members can be seen and heard around St. Thomas and St. John at the Tavern on the Waterfront on Friday Nights, at the Saturday Full Moon Jazz at Yacht Haven or at the Beach Bar in Cruz Bay, St. John. They are sometimes referred to as “The Young Lions.” The group includes Malachi Thomas, saxophone; Kai Richardson, trumpet; Jonte Samuel, saxophone and Tabari Lake, bass. They now join with vocalist Tabari Davis to produce a series of concerts to aid in their higher education pursuits. The members of Tabari Lake are not scheduled to graduate until 2012. These students have taken the initiative to plan and organize these events. They are also accepting patrons who are willing to make a contribution.

The concert dates scheduled thus far are 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, at the Charlotte Amalie High School and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 10, at the Westin Ballroom on St. John. Louis Taylor will accompany on piano. The St. John show will have guest appearances by Lorna Freeman, Malvern Gumbs and Neils Gooding.
General admission is $15 and students with I.D. pay $5. Tickets are available in advance at V.I. Bridal & Tuxedo in Tutu Park Mall, UVI Bookstore, CAHS, International Records and Tapes, and Connections on St. John.
