Former UVI President Dr. LaVerne Ragster to Be Honored Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster, the former UVI president, will be honored by the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) at its annual Awards for Excellence on June 5. Dr. Ragster is among four distinguished alumni of UCSD that will be honored. Along with being a past president of UVI, Dr. Ragster is a respected conservationist, research scientist and educator. She earned her Ph.D. in biology from UCSD in 1980.
UVI Board of Trustees to Meet June 12 The University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees will hold its quarterly meeting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, on UVI’s St. Croix campus.
UVI 2009-2010 Fact Book Available On-line UVI’s Office of Institutional Research and Planning has announced that the completed 2009-2010 UVI Fact Book is now available online. The book contains information regarding enrollment for both fall 2010 and spring 2011. This information is presented in a variety of ways so that relative information by campus, gender and class are available. In addition, information on historical enrollment, admissions, SAT scores, degrees conferred, course enrollment, faculty characteristics, tuition and fees, the 2008 UVI financial statement, facilities and current peer institutions are also available. It can be accessed from the Office of Institutional Research and Planning page of the UVI Web site: www.uvi.edu.
Latest Issue of Dateline: UVI Available The latest issue of “Dateline: UVI,” a monthly newsletter produced by the UVI Public Relations Office, is now available. This issue gives a report on the commencement ceremonies held on each campus. It also takes a look at a session of UVI’s Summer Institute for Future Global Leaders where participating students from Haiti shared their experiences of surviving the Jan. 12 earthquake. A picture featuring radio personality Tom Joyner at his Fantastic Voyage’s visit to St. Thomas is also included. ‘Sussman Challenge’ to Match Donations to UVI The University of the Virgin Islands and UVI Trustee Donald Sussman are issuing a matching gift challenge to the V.I. community. In an effort to encourage charitable giving to the university by alumni and non-alumni, Sussman has stepped forward with a $100,000 matching gift challenge for individuals and companies who have not supported the university since Oct. 1, 2008. He will match every alumni contribution dollar-for-dollar for all gifts in excess of $100. All non-alumni gifts, from businesses and individuals, in excess of $1,000 will be matched 50 cents per dollar donated. All gifts meeting these criteria will be matched up to $100,000.
