He was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago to Ethel Smith. When his mother passed away at an early age, David began a hard life on his own and took up a trade. He was a skilled joiner by the age of 14. He got married to Leonora Smith and eventually moved to St. Croix in 1968 to create a better life for his family in the thriving economy of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
David also became an accomplished carpenter, pipefitter, valve technician, on-line leak specialist and lathe operator. His dedication to quality work was his trademark. David professed his faith in Christ and tried to live a life honoring God. He is loved and will be missed by many. David is remembered by his wife, Leonora Smith. Children include Ann George Smith, Judith Smith Matthew, Hazel and son-in-law Percival St. Ange, and his son, Keith A. Smith Sr. and daughter-in-law, Mireille Sankatsing-Smith. His daughter, Kathleen Smith, and son, David O. Smith Jr. expired before him. David also leaves behind nine grandsons, five granddaughters, and one great-grandson.
