0

In order to get accountability from the newly-elected public service officials,Our Virgin Islands Labor Union, The People’s Community Action Radio and several other community groups have scheduled a series of town meetings immediately after the general election to present “The People’s Agenda” 2011, which is the to- do-list from the people for the newly-elected officials.
“The People’s Agenda”is a list of each island district’s local issues and concerns. It is an ongoing, evolving document that began to develop over the past year from various community discussions and town meetings. The goals and objectives of the town meetings are to facilitate opportunities for the people to continue to be engaged in directing the course of their political future. By participating in solution-oriented discussions and activities for the improvement of the community and, ultimately, to obtain accountability from those elected and appointed to public office.
It is suggested that each island district community come up with five or more of the most pressing issues and challenges facing them and the young people of their community. It is also suggested they develop a three-part approach that should bring about immediate, intermediate and long rangerelief or solutions.
The governor, lieutenant governor, delegate to Congress, the top eight senatorial candidates, and Board of Election members who win the Nov. 2nd elections are respectfully requiredto attend the scheduled town meetings.
