Babysitting Payment Sparks Assault

Two women on St. Thomas were arrested Thursday after police said they got into a fight about a babysitter’s payment.

Police on St. Thomas said one suspect used a knife during the assault and both women had superficial injuries. The incident happened at a Hospital Ground apartment complex, where both women live.

According to the police reports, Altagracia Montero, 33, and Jessica Garcia, 26, were arrested shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday. Garcia was cut on the palm of her right hand but refused medical attention. Montero was bruised on her face and had an injured lip and was taken to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Montero was charged with third-degree assault. Unable to post her $25,000 bail, she was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections.

Garcia was charged with simple assault. She posted a $500 bail and was released from police custody.
