Antoinette Petersen Bolling Dies in New Jersey

0

Antoinette Petersen Bolling was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands to the late Hugh Valdemar and Petrina Edney Petersen on Oct. 9, 1922. Anto, as she was affectionately called, became a part of a large loving family of three older sisters: Alvilda, Eulalie and Marion and six brothers: Lauritz, Pierpont, Ivan, Gustave, Frankie and Claude. She graduated from Frederiksted grammar and high schools and worked in the family grocery business before studying to become a registered nurse.
In 1945, she moved to New York City to live with her sister Marion and husband Wendell Ford. On June 15, 1947, she married Lloyd A. Bolling and gave birth to a son and daughter, Lloyd Jr. and Karen. She devoted her life to her husband, children and extended family. Anto and Lloyd were married for 63 years and traveled all over the U.S., Caribbean and Europe, including several trips to Denmark.
Anto set the bar high for her family by showing her relationship with God, her faithfulness and constancy in being part of a church family, by the respect she had for herself and for others, and by the strong family values she instilled in her offspring. She never complained about anything and was always heard singing or humming. When it came to sharing, she would always make a stranger feel welcomed in her home by sharing her meals. She had a knack for cutting cakes and stretching food so that everyone had enough.
Anto was preceded in death by her sisters Alvilda and Eulalie and her brothers Lauritz, Pierpont, Ivan, Gustave, Frank and Claude.
She is survived by her loving husband, Lloyd Sr.; son, Lloyd Jr. (Gail); daughter, Karen (Chris); grandchildren: Rachel (Woodnard), Aurora (Gabe), Karri (Kevin), Cameron and Alexandra; and great grandchildren: Maxwell, David, Jesse, Vivian and Trey; sister, Marion Ford of Florida; sisters-in-law Marynda of Georgia, and Clarissa and Edna of St Croix; as well as a host of relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew and the Holy Communion Episcopal Church, 160 West South Orange Avenue at Ridgewood Road, South Orange, New Jersey, at noon on Saturday, Feb. 19. The family will receive their friends at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue Livingston, N.J., from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the
American Cancer Society, 507 Westminster Avenue, Elizabeth, N.J. 07208.
