Home Depot is preparing to hire about 125 workers for when its St. Croix store opens in September, and the V.I. Department of Labor will hold a recruitment drive to help fill those positions.

The drive will be held from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the Great Hall on the St. Croix campus of the University of the Virgin Islands.

According to Labor Commissioner Albert Bryan, Jr., the company will hire about 125 people for the store’s grand opening. Positions to be filled include cashier/return associates, head cashier, sales associates, customer order specialists, kitchen project designers, appliance sales specialists, freight team associates, phone center sales, and supervisors in receiving, cashier/front end and sales department.

“This grand opening is truly a blessing in such tough economic times, especially for the people of St. Croix, providing real opportunities for employment and overall economic development," Bryan said. "The July 6 recruitment drive represents new jobs added to our economy and is proof positive of the administration’s success with public/private investment projects, paying dividends for many years to come.”

The department also encourages interested individuals to visit the department’s Sunny Isle Office location to register with the department. Staff will be available to assist with the online application process.

The department will also offer resume writing and interviewing skills workshops before the recruitment drive. These sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Virgin islands Cardiac Center.
