Citizen Phone Call Helps Police Recover Stolen Jewelry

A phone call from one concerned citizen helped St. Thomas police recover approximately $12,000 in jewelry stolen last month from a store on Raadets Gade.

Police received a call at approximately 1:30 a.m. Tuesday from a resident in St. Joseph and Rosendal who said they had seen people in the neighborhood “acting suspiciously” who later drove off in a silver car. Police put out an all-points bulletin on the vehicle, which was later found in Savan, according to a Police Department news release.

Police stopped and searched the vehicle, allegedly finding a black plastic bag of silver jewelry that still had price tags attached to it. The jewelry was later identified as that which had been reported stolen during a burglary at Vishnu Jewelers between Jan. 21-22, 2012.

Officers arrested the occupants of the vehicle, later identified as Woody Jean, 23, and Lenny Alfred, 33. Their bail was set at $10,000 each and they were remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
