National Park Service Continues Lectures About Buck Island Reef Monument

0

In celebration of Buck Island Reef’s 50th anniversary year as a National Monument, the National Park Service continues its public lectures about Buck Island Reef National Monument on every second Thursday of each month.
October’s lecture entitled ‘Boat Safety and Visitor Responsibility at Buck Island Reef National Monument’ will be held from 5-6 p.m., Oct. 11, in the Danish Guinea West India Company Warehouse/ Slave Market Building. This month’s lecture examines the Federal Regulations and enforcement practices that are used within the park boundaries. The park’s law enforcement staff invites members of the public as well as the visiting community to attend. The goal is to create an informal setting where citizens can ask questions about regulations and security needs. The Christiansted National Historic Site parking lot will be ‘free’ and open for this event until 7 p.m..
The future topics and dates for our lecture series are:
November 8: Recent Marine Research and Mapping Changes in the Reef
December 13: Buck Island’s Ancient Peoples-Seen and Unseen
The series will continue into 2013; stay tuned for titles.
