Two men were shot, both in the left leg, in separate incidents Monday night and early Tuesday morning, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to the report, officers were dispatched to the Schneider Regional Hospital and Medical Center a few minutes before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday to investigate a gunshot injury.

The 26-year-old victim, whose name was not released, told police he was walking near building 13 in Hidden Valley when a vehicle passed by him and he heard gunshots. He ran and realized he was shot in his left leg.

The victim said he was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. He told police that he did not see who shot him, and did not have a description of the vehicle.

Police were also called to Fortuna at about 11:45 p.m. Monday to investigate a vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. When officers arrived they noticed that the vehicle’s back window had been shattered and there appeared to be blood in the area.

Passengers in another vehicle in the area told police that they were taking a shooting victim to the hospital. Police escorted the private vehicle to the hospital and conducted interviews there.

The victim, who also was shot in his left leg, told police he was driving in Fortuna and noticed that a vehicle seemed to be following him. He made several turns and the vehicle was still behind him, he said. When he slowed down several armed men dressed in black came out of the vehicle and fired at him.

The victim said he fled into the bushes and waited for the suspects to leave. He then called a family member to take him to the hospital for treatment.

Police are continuing to look for suspects, according to the report.
