Student athletes from the Virgin Islands are representing the territory at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia. The latest information of their progress is from Sunday, July 7, as reported by the Virgin Islands University Sports Federation track and field coach Keith Smith. Still to compete are Collister Fahie and Leon Hunt in the long jump competition and Eddie Lovett in the 110m hurdles.

Halim Hasheem — Triple Jump — Hasheem executed well and never fouled a jump but came one place and eight centimeters short of the finals. He came in 13th place with the top 12 moving on to the finals.
David Walters — 100m — Walters ran in 10.71sec for third in his heat moving him on to the second round, which is in a matter of eight hours. — In the second round that evening, Walters ran a 10.48sec for a sixth place finish in his heat and it qualified him to the semi-finals to be held on July 8 in the evening.
Ninfa Barnard — 800m — Barnard ran a gutsy race to finish in 4th place in 2:10.85sec. This qualified her to the semi-finals of the event. It will also be held on July 8 in the evening.
This is a great start and a wonderful accomplishment for the Virgin Islands team thus far.
