Flavors of St. John Set for Nov. 23

The Rotary Club of St. John hopes to nearly double the funds collected last year at the Flavors of St. John fundraising party on Nov. 23, with the money going to support its scholarship fund and community activities.

All while having fun sampling food and drink from a wealth of St. John restaurants, said committee chairman Bruce Munroe.

Munro said the event is the organization’s biggest fundraiser, and tickets are still available. The fete runs from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Westin Resort and Villas ballroom and conference rooms.

Munro said last year’s Flavors netted Rotary $16,000. This year the organization hopes to raise between $25,000 and $30,000.

Rotary President Joan Bermingham said a ferry directly to the Westin will leave Red Hook, St. Thomas, at 6 p.m. It will return from the Westin to Red Hook at 11:30 p.m. The round trip runs $12 per person. The ferry will be one from InterIsland Boat Services.

Munro expects participation by Asolare, Aqua Bistro, Bowman Cuisine at Tamarind Court, Café Livin, Caneel Bay Resort, Creative Catering, Fatty Crab, Gifft Hill School Farm to table, LaTapa, Morgan’s Mango, Motu Bar, Ocean Grill, Qween of Tarts, Spyglass, Starfish Market, The Fish Trap, The Lime Inn, St. John Brewers Tap Room, and Mathayom Private Chefs. Munro said he anticipates a couple more restaurants will sign on in the weeks before the party.

Those restaurants and bars will compete in the best appetizer, entree, dessert, and mixology categories. The entries will be judged from 5 until 6 p.m. There will also be people’s choice category. Winners will be announced between 7:30 and 8 p.m.

Wine tasting will start at 6:30 p.m. with six wine distributors showcasing wines from around the world. West Indies Co. will feature wines from Spain and Chile. Bellows International will feature wines from France. Prestige Wine Group will feature wines from France and California. Glazer’s Premier Wines & Spirits will feature wines from Australia and New Zealand. AB Cellars will feature wines from Italy. Dionysus Wine Distributors will feature wines from South Africa.

Cool Sessions will provide live music and dancing. A silent auction will take place in the entranceway corridor.

Dress is island fancy.

Tickets may be purchased at www.flavorsstjohn.com and at Connections in Coral Bay and Cruz Bay, Chelsea Drug Store in Red Hook and the Market Place shopping center on St. John, Dr. Cool, St. John Properties, Trevor’s Activity Center in Mongoose Junction shopping center. St. John Rotary Club members also have tickets available. Tickets are $100 in advance and $110 at the door. Card-carrying food handlers pay $75 for advance tickets.
