Scotiabank Sponsors Joy of Thanksgiving Food Drive

0

This Thanksgiving will be a joyous occasion for many families thanks to the generosity of the community during Scotiabank’s “Share the Joy of Thanksgiving” food drive on St. Croix.
Bright red bags were filled with non-perishable food items during the food drive at Plaza Extra East on Sunday.
Sadie Clendinen, marketing manager of Scotiabank, was very pleased with the outpouring of community support. “It is very heartwarming to experience the generosity of the community. This is the fifth year for the Scotiabank Joy of Thanksgiving food drive and we want to extend our thanks to all who participated.”
This year, donations were distributed to the Women’s Coalition and Lutheran Social Services. Yaneria Knight of The Women’s Coalition of St. Croix was overjoyed by the amount of food received. “The food donated will help many families in need have a more joyful holiday season.”
Scotiabank has coordinated the “Joy of Thanksgiving” food drive for the past five years providing carloads of groceries to local charities as well as purchasing turkeys to be distributed to the charities. On St. Thomas, Scotiabank sponsored “Canstruction” where teams competed to create the best sculptures out of canned foods. Teams purchased the canned items, created their works of art, then all cans were donated to charities for distribution to families in need.
Clendinen is grateful to the community on both islands. ”As we all sit down to our holiday tables, we will do so knowing that a great many of our neighbors who might not have been able to are doing the same. Happy Thanksgiving to all who participated and benefited.”
