Roseway Returning to St. Croix Sunday Night

Roseway, the World Ocean School’s National Historic Landmark schooner, is scheduled to arrive in Gallows Bay Sunday night after a seven-day voyage from Savannah, Ga., the organization announced Friday.

The schooner Roseway is the WOS’s educational platform and makes Christiansted her winter home port. With 14 crew on board – both sailors and educators – Roseway will anchor again off of Protestant Cay.

“We are really excited about coming back to St. Croix and welcoming students and visitors back on board,” said Abby Kidder, president and cofounder of the World Ocean School.

Roseway and her crew will spend the winter providing educational programs for the public and private schools on the island. Over the years, World Ocean School has served more than 4,000 island students in academic curriculum aboard the ship. In its program, students extend their learning in hands-on ways while practicing teamwork, community building and individual responsibility, according to the WOS, giving students a new perspective on their island and the maritime careers it offers.

Cane Bay Partners LLC has again provided a $7,500 sponsorship to support the students from Ricardo Richards Junior High School to participate in programming in the new year.

"The team at Cane Bay Partners is proud to support Roseway’s efforts to enhance the education of our children," said Kirk Chewing of the Cane Bay Partners. "We look forward to seeing her red sails up around St. Croix."

Beside the education program, Roseway offers evening sunset sails to the public beginning at 4 p.m. each day to help raise funds to keep program accessible to island schools. More information on programs and schedules is available online at www.worldoceanschool.org or by calling 1-340-626-7877.
