Police on St. Thomas are cracking down on drunken driving and they have five recent arrests to show they’re serious about it.

According to the V.I. Police Department:

– Masai Yblies, 33, was arrested just after 7 a.m. Monday. Police said Yblies was driving a 2003 Silver Vitara in Contant when he was involved in a collision with another vehicle and police found him to be under the influence of alcohol.

– José Encarnacion, 49, was arrested at 1:20 a.m. Monday on Veterans Drive. Encarnacion was driving a 2001 white Chevy Silverado. Police said his vehicle collided into a pump house and that he was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

– At about 6 p.m. Sunday, 52-year-old Serrano Carmona Ortiz was arrested on the Nicholas Friday Drive. Police said he disobeyed a lawful order not to drive and was involved in an auto collision. Ortiz was driving a white Mitsubishi Lancer at the time of his arrest.

– Peter Amos, 53, was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Sunday and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said Amos was driving a red Ford Focus in the area of Frenchman’s Bay when he was involved in an auto collision and was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

– And about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, 69-year-old Ebert Lettsome was driving a tan 2000 Mazda on Veterans Drive when he was involved in an auto accident. Police said Lettsome was intoxicated.

The Traffic Enforcement officers on St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix have warned motorists that traffic checkpoints will be increased during the holiday season in order to protect the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

  1. Crackdown??? Are you kidding me? All the police did was show up at 5 AUTO ACCIDENTS and find 5 drunk drivers! This has nothing to do with checkpoints or crackdowns! If the cops would actually start enforcing ANY traffic laws it would lead to less crime overall…
