A 24-year-old woman from St. Thomas was found dead at about 10:15 p.m. Friday in a car in Tutu Valley, according to the V.I. Police Department, and one man was later arrested and charged in the crime.

Adisa Bertrand, a 34-year-old resident of Chocolate Hole, St. John, was charged with first-degree murder and other charges.

The 911 dispatch alerted police to a one car traffic accident involving a gold Honda Accord that crashed into a fence in Tutu Valley. While investigating the accident police saw the unresponsive body of a woman in the vehicle.

The victim was later identified as Shantee Seivewright.

Police said the victim had injuries to her body that were not the result of an auto accident. While at the scene police received information that a man was at a nearby bar telling patrons that he wanted to kill himself. When police went to the location they saw the man had blood on his clothes. He was taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center and seen by the medical staff and subsequently released to Major Crime detectives.

Police identified the man as Bertrand, who admitted being involved in the murder. Bertrand was arrested at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Bertrand was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, third-degree assault and four counts of possession of a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime of violence. He was held without bail and remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advise of Rights at the VI Superior Court.
