The two women representing the U.S. Virgin Islands in the World University Games Golf Championship find themselves in the middle of the pack after three rounds, although as a team they lagged behind most of the field.

The pair – Amira Alexander and Ali Prazak – represent the territory in the 15th World University Championship golf tournament under way in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

Alexander finished the day in 28th place out of the 62-woman field. Alexander shot an opening round 73 to tie for 12th, and then followed it with 77s in the second and third round for a three-round score of 227.

Alexander was born on St. Croix and lived there until moving to the mainland at the age of 4. She plays for the University of Georgia Bulldogs.

Ali Prazak, a 2010 graduate of Antilles School, is in 38th place with a score of 232. She had an opening round 78, which she repeated on the second day of play.

"I think after three rounds on the course we are adjusted to the differences and feel good about going out to play today," Prazak wrote in an email to the Source. She then proved that to be true, cutting two stroke to finish the round with a 76.

Prazak, who learned the game on the Mahogany Run Golf Course on St. Thomas, attended Campbell University in North Carolina on a golf scholarship, graduating this spring.

In the team competition, Spain leads the way with a five-stroke lead over the United States. Spain is at 11-under-par 421, while the U.S. is six-under at 426.

The V.I. team of Alexander and Prazak is in a tie with Canada for 12th place in the 17-team field with a 27-over score of 459. Lagging behind the V.I. are Malaysia, Thailand, Switzerland and last-place China.
