Jan. 5, 2006 — Former Lt. Gov. Gerard Luz James II has been hospitalized with an undisclosed medical condition, this according to a close relative. Attempts to reach Juan F. Luis Hospital CEO Gregory Calliste or Chief Medical Officer Michael Potts to confirm the admittance of the former lieutenant governor were not successful on Thursday.
On Thursday afternoon, Sen. Neville James said he got word about the former lieutenant governor's condition from another family member.
"I spoke with my brother, who is very close to him, and he told me about midday today that the former lieutenant governor, who is my first cousin, was in the hospital. We don't want to get into specifics right now, but as far as we know he is in the hospital under observation and he is getting the best of care," James said Thursday.
James, a former two-term member of the Legislature, was elected lieutenant governor in 1998. He served under Gov. Charles W. Turnbull, the territory's current chief executive, from 1999 to 2003.
