Feb. 7, 2006 – Senator Neville James, chairman of the Economic Development, Planning and Environmental Protection committee today requested Public Works commissioner George Phillips to begin repair work on Route 75, also called the Clifton Hill connector road which runs between the Ville La Reine intersection and the Melvin Evans Highway.
"This route is critical to alleviate traffic congestion on Queen Mary Highway from the Ville La Reine intersection to the Kingshill intersection," Senator James said. "The road provides an alternate route which allows motorists to avoid the gridlock caused by vehicles entering and exiting the St. Croix Central High School at the top of Kingshill."
Senator James said although the road is less than 3 years-old, the lower section of the road has eroded causing huge potholes which motorists avoid by driving on one side of the road. The road was constructed without any drainage or swales to divert settling water, the senator said.
"The road was supposed to ease congestion but the potholes make it a one-way street in certain sections," Senator James said. "We all know St. Croix has the roads, but if we can't use them effectively, what's the use?"
