VIPD Urges Public to Participate in National Lights on For Life Day

0

Police Commissioner Novelle E. Francis Jr. encourages the public to join with the Police Department and participate in the National Lights on for Life Day, which will be observed Friday, Dec. 18. National Lights on for Life Day remembers those who have lost their lives due to drunk drivers and focuses the public’s attention on the consequences of impaired driving. Motorists are asked to set their vehicle lights to high beam during this day and attach a black and white ribbon to their antenna.

Police cars on all three islands will display the ribbons on their antennas courtesy of the VIPD Office of Highway Safety. Impaired driving and the fatalities that go along with it continue to be a major problem in the Virgin Islands. The VIPD has joined with other police departments in the “National Enforcement Crack Down on Drunk Driving Campaign,” which began on Dec. 1 and ends on Jan 3. Through the holiday season, the message continues to be “Keep the Holidays Happy – Don’t Drink and Drive, and If You plan on Drinking, Have a Designated Driver.”
