Police Arrest Suspect in November 2010 Murder

St. Thomas Police arrested 18-year-old Shakieme Freeman shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday and charged him with first-degree murder in the Nov. 20, 2010, shooting death of Aquil Abdullah.

According to police reports, just before 4 a.m. on Nov. 20, police were dispatched to a call of shots fired in the parking lot of Jaguars Night Club, where they found Abdullah, a 22-year-old resident of Estate Tutu. Emergency medical technicians could not find any signs of life on the victim.

The initial police investigation revealed that Abdullah was involved in an altercation with one or more people while standing in the parking lot and was shot several times. Further investigation led police to name Freeman as the suspect.

Freeman was held without bail and was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.

Freeman was actually arrested at prison, where he was being held on another set of charges, according to police. He had been arrested Jan. 27 during the execution of several search and arrest warrants in “Operation Cease Fire.”

Based on those warrants, police arrested 20-year-old Elroy Faulkner of Estate Anna’s Retreat, 18-year-old Shakieme Freeman of Bovoni housing community and 22-year-old Vincent Thompson of Water Bay Condos in connection with a Jan. 12 incident near Bovoni Housing Community where the suspects opened fire on several individuals and eluded officers in a high speed chase. The gunfire severely damaged several cars.

The suspects were positively identified as the shooters. They were arrested and charged with third-degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, reckless endangerment, destruction of property and aiding and abetting.

At the time of those arrests police alluded that more charges and arrests were imminent.
