Brief: Chance to Feed the Artists Sunday

The grounds of Estate Whim Plantation will be filled with strolling folks enjoying fine art, ceramics, jewelry, handmade clothing, local food and drink, and local arts and crafts of all description Sunday at St. Croix Landmarks Society’s 23rd annual Starving Artists Day.

Sunday’s outdoor fair will showcase original artwork V.I. students entered into the U.S. House of Representatives’ 2011 Congressional Art Competition, and the V.I. winners will be announced at Whim Sunday evening at a 5 p.m. ceremony. The V.I. Council on the Arts will pay travel expenses for the winners to go to Washington, D.C., for the final competition later in the year, according to a statement from Delegate Donna Christensen.

An exhibition of works entitled "The Great House," by LaVaughn Belle and Monica Marin will also be showcased, according to a statement from the Landmarks society.

Latin group De Nuestras Raices will give a dance performance at noon and Junie and the Jungle, with the inimitable St. Croix musical stalwart Wilfred "Junie Bomba" Allick, taking the stage at 1 p.m.

The gates open at 10 a.m. and tickets are $5, with children under 12 getting in free.
