The V.I. Port Authority will hold a ceremony on Feb. 27 to rename a recently renovated maintenance building. Soon to be referenced as the Robert O’Connor Jr. Maintenance Building, the renaming is mandated by legislation sponsored by Sen. Donna Frett-Gregory and signed by Gov. Albert Bryan in September of 2019.

The legislative act commends former senator Robert O’Connor Jr. for his lifelong commitment to the people of the Virgin Islands via his service as a legislator, his membership on the Virgin Islands Port Authority board for over 20 years, and his work as a community leader. Born on St. John in 1946, O’Connor served as a V.I. senator from 1987 to 1990. He later worked on the Port Authority Board for 24 years, from 1991 through 2015, serving as chair for five terms. Lastly, he also owns O’Connor Car Rental on St. John.

The O’Connor Maintenance Building is located in Bournefield on St. Thomas, adjacent to the north ramp of the Cyril E. King Airport. The renaming ceremony will take place from 10 a.m. to noon.
